sf bar buoy (not the lightship channel entrance buoy)

seems gps/google/chart/satellite views agree you can see drege marks on
both- its the private buoy between and just north of channel markers G5 and
G7

bottom through the chart (Thanks DAN!)
Its a shame that you can put the buoy coordinates
37.781 N 122.599 W
into this google search box the same way as google..or am I missing how to
do that?

Here's where the bar pilot probably got "carried away"

amazingly- google has the buoys already- I searched for a coordinate and it
gave me back the station number with link, data

Although our typical storms/wind come from the west/north, el nino is
making for some interesting weather here- complete with thunderstorms and hail.
Tornadoes to the south (did anyone see the reynolds 33 blown out of the
water sitting on the dock on the news). Yesterday a "bar pilot"
_http://www.sfbarpilots.com/_ (http://www.sfbarpilots.com/) couldn't get back on his
pilot boat (report below). I've heard these guys talk..in severe conditions,
the ship turns broadside to the wind/waves and the pilot boat comes in the
lee and the pilot steps from rope ladder to the pilot boat which is rising
and falling in the lee of the ship.

(http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_realtime.php?station=46237) i assume that's near the channel and not in the shoal/surf zone..
>>>Even old-salt ship pilots had trouble. In the early morning, the wind
was screeching so badly - 69 mph offshore - that the Golden Gate was
essentially shut down for a few hours, leaving one pilot stranded at sea.
The pilot, Capt. Sean Gabe of Walnut Creek, had finished guiding a
container ship to 12 miles outside the Golden Gate, where 20-foot waves prevented
him from getting on his boat and heading back to shore, said Pete McIsaac,
president of the Bar Pilots Association.
"He got what we call 'carried away,' " McIsaac said. That meant that
because he couldn't disembark, he had to just stay on the ship - as it headed to
its next destination of Los Angeles. He'll have to fly home today, McIsaac
said.
"That's the first time that's happened in four or five years," he said.

Ok, you're making a different point now. Originally you said there is no
bar outside the gate. Now, if it isn't a continuous bar, it isn't a bar
entrance. It would be a continuous bar if it wasn't dredged making the deep
water channel you mentioned. You can see the dredged channel

I only make this issue because we have too many fatalities in that area
not to mention various rescues, capsizes, sinkings to minimize the hazard
with symantics.
cheers
bob- who has been on the race deck when boats and lives have been lost in
that area

What San Francisco bar? Huge ships go in and out of San Francisco. I've
done it a few times by yacht. The only bar is if you go on the wrong side
of the pilings for the Golden Gate bridge. "Bar" harbors are quite shallow
in the entrance. There are plenty of them on the West coast of the US,
but San Francisco isn't one of them.
