We used spectra with spectra lashings because:

1. I got a full roll of spectra for the right price (also used it for  
securing the nets)

2. It can be cut with a knife in an emergency (Where are the damn bolt  
cutters ?)

3. It does not rust

4. It does not really suffer from UV

5. Its slightly softer on the hands

BUT

1. Its fiddly to do a mobius brummel (*) spice in small dia covered  
spectra

2. If you whip it instead the whipping might be weaker or might suffer  
from UV

3. Depending on what you use a whipping might be subject to UV
