Have you looked into Knight and Carver in National city. they have a 250 ton
travellift that can go to 33 feet, I have had good luck there over the years.

Make sure the spreader bars are at least as wide as the boat unless
the strops are very very long.

The way a lot of us get around this in Sydney is ensuring we put tarps under
each hull when we are working on the boat. The local council people often
come and take photos but as long as we can show that we are not dropping
anything on the sand they tend to leave us alone. I did an oil change on my
outboards and made sure not a drop of oil hit the ground.

The 16 hour drying time is a bit of a bugger though!

5-7' tides, but my bottom paint requires 16 hour drying time and they'd
arrest me for sanding bottom paint on a beach. :-(

The local marine railway has been demolished. The local big travel lift is

just too tight a fit. The big lifts are 150 miles away and pricey in their

own right. Local cities (SoCal) are very picky about pollution & boat

work, making a bottom job outside a yard a near impossibility. There is one

local yard with enough water access to bring in a crane for lifting out and

back. I wondered if any of you have
experience and comments regarding a

crane hoist of a big beam cat like Afterburner?

Bill
as you'd probably guessed - yep - lifted Fingers Crossed (F40 cat) out and
Mollymawk (40ft tri) via crane

cat
don't run strops under hulls at all
- lift using the beams
- 4 strops onto outer end of beam beams on inside of hull, strops come to
meet at crane hook - lashing to stop them slipping inwards. - dead easy and
prevents any compression on hulls.

on the tri we just stopped as per a monohull (ie 2 strops one fore, 1 aft on
main hull only) and lifted - as beams are equal weight and distance -
friction prevents any rotation

i can post pics if any wants. we lifted with both mast in and mast out

need to make sure crane company knows weight and beam so they can get a
large enough crane in to lift at the reach.

Bill always used a crane at our yard with beams to 37 ft.

Since most charge by hour with a minimum you can save time if you can
rig slings or cables to lift points prior to the cranes
arrival.

We had a crane company that would stop and do us on the way home from
last job

The lack of yards exists here too ( SW FL) recently tried to get a small
26 ftr bottom painted and the only place that would was a mega yacht
facility that charged accordingly.

Figured either get a boat with a trailer or put in a lift and we
understand the USCG is about to reimpose a moratorium on docks and lift so.
