Brion Toss' book Riggers Apprentice shows an End-of-Bowsprit anchoring
technique (p88)

Anyone tried it?

The following from coxcreek at ihug.co.nz

was bounced on account of its being 139k in size against the list's 10k per
post limit.

hey Tony
Just read your piece in multihull steamers about multihulls with wing masts
moving about while moored. I have had both cats and hydrofoil tris (and one
with two wing masts set on the beams (see jpeg) and the simplest way to halt
them sailing like mad fools at anchor is to ...... simply lift the rudder
or rudders. Naturally the boards or foils have to be lifted too. My first
cat, a 32 foot Tennant Bamboo Bomber named Supplejack (needless to say a
lightweight) had fixed rudders with skegs - a total disaster while moored;
it would sail like a lunatic to the end of the mooring or warp and jerk to a
halt, swing about and then repeat the frenetic performance on the other
board. In strong winds I had to ridiculously sit at the helm while anchored
and keep steering the boat head to wind. I rebuilt the rudders so they could
lift (got rid of the useless slow manoeuvring skegs as well) and the problem
was solved. The wing mast or masts are set locked fore and aft - they must
not be allowed to pivot, otherwise they can shake themselves to death.

Gary Baigent
