[MHml] wire rope splice

Raising the main sail headcar a couple inches to unlock while sailing downwind in 35+ knots does require quite a load on the tail.
What do you figure the max load a motivated (aka "terrified") beefy crew with a 52 winch can apply is? 5,000 pounds? More? That's
over 70% of 12mm polyester double braid breaking strength. Not as big a safety factor as I thought at first.

I am working on a synthetic halyard. Dux Dynex 75 with G10 slugs covered in SS tube. Lot's of "ifs" like chafe and grip to test.
Parts arrive today for assembly. It still seems prudent to have a new halyard on hand of the old style. At least I know they last
3 years.

Changing the locking system is the next step, but is a much bigger project. Just pulling the mast, again, is an expensive pain, as
is re-engineering/rebuilding the mast head.

I would take this as an opprtunity to change away from the wire to a
metal slug or similar spliced/stiched into vectran (or a new lock
system) - as Larry say the tail can be anything as the halyad lock takes
the load
