I don't use a headboard, just have a s/s ring at the head of the sail - 
attached by webbing.
If I tied to the s/s ring I would have to untie each time I put the boat 
back on the mooring. Thus I use a shackle with my current 1:1 vectran.
With the new 2:1 halyard I will tie to a shackle at the masthead. I 
won't tie direct to the masthead as I need to undo from time to time.

Unfortunately I was greedy when I specified the mainsail luff length so 
I need all the hoist I can get. The 2:1 halyard system uses up a little 
hoist but I will live with that for the ease of hoisting. If I was 
specifying again I would go for a shorter luff.
