Spinlock and other UV coatings are esscially 'paint' but I have no idea
what it is. You would need to be careful that it did not affect the
materials properties

Heat shrink - it depends on the quality - go commercial (eg DaCanusa ?
Spelling) and there is excellent heavy duty heat shrink avaiable (in
100m rolls) which does stand the abuse (what do you think the riggers
use?)
