[MHml] Escape hatches

I have now checked the RCD requirements, paragraf 3.8 states:

" All habitable multihull craft over 12 m shall be provided with viable
means of escape in the event of an inversion"

That's it.

The ISAF regulations are alot mere specific.

3.07.1 states the requirements for 2 exits from each hull for multihulls
over 8m

3.07.2 states that for multihulls over 12 m., the escape hatches must have
a certain size (depending on when the boat was built), and where these
should be placed.

3.07.2 d) defines the requirement of handholds/clipping points on the
underside of the hulls for each crew member.

I reckon any sensible designfor offshore use, should fulfill the ISAF
rules for offshore multihulls -but this increases cost....but not by much,
what do a few padeyes cost?

These are excerpts, read the full blown thing on the earlier links in this
thread.

cheers

I believe the requirement for escape hatches has been dropped from the RCD
in relation to cruising cats. I know of at lease 1 Manta that is CE'd and
does
not have escape hatches.

I am pretty sure that the RCD (Recreational Craft Directive) or CE
approval
as it is now known - requires not only escape hatches, but for multihulls,
fixtures on the underside of the bridgedeck to which you can tie on to. I
will look this up when I get the time.
