An old Iroquois cat in my club has an inboard with a shaft that raises  & 
lowers (easily & puts peg in place once up). It looks so simple &  effective.
 
Dave Howell F9-AX (with 13 HP diesel inboard & folding Gori  prop.)

<I  can see possibilities in a "drop down" propeller configuration,
