Several of Ross Turner's larger designs (his Coral Coast 29) were built 
this type of inboard power arrangement.

Not only did they appear to have sorted out the installation details 
like staying the prop-shaft with a wire bridle but the cooling water 
loop as well.

Drat, can't seem to find the pix I have around here somewhere, will look 
some more... but there is a YahooGroup (two actually)

Suddenly I can see possibilities in a "drop down" propeller configuration,
with an inboard diesel. Maybe using a Kevlar belt drive up to on of these
couplings, with a shaft that can be pulled out of the water - between the
hulls.
