The Go-devil is an interesting thing.

I intend to add a alum pipe frame to carry all thrust loads from the transom plate. I'm guessing the main beam and dolphin striker
will carry the simple 500 pound weight of the motor. I'll have a couple of beefy boys bounce on it first and see how it flexes.

How about a custom Go-Devil <http://www.godevil.com/GO-DEVIL_SDEngines.html> http://www.godevil.com/GO-DEVIL_SDEngines.html

The Surface drive engines use a belt drive that reduces the engines revolutions.

If you do not mind AB sounding like a lawn mower.

On using a beach cat as a sled, you may have a structural problem modifying it so it will handle with the weight of the engine. A
friend has a john boat with one of the go-devil engines; he had to reinforce the transom to handle the weight.
