The Surface drive engines use a belt drive that reduces the engines revolutions.
 
If you do not mind AB sounding like a lawn mower.
 
On using a beach cat as a sled, you may have a structural problem modifying it so it will handle with the weight of the engine. A friend has a john boat with one of the go-devil engines; he had to reinforce the transom to handle the weight.
