Brian,

    I think you are getting it just about right here.   Maybe a 250 hp turbo 
diesel with a V drive and a large geared down prop.   Deep V hull cross 
section and lengthwise connected to main and aft beams. 
    Would add watertight buoyancy and a snorkel for the engine.   Should be 
seaworthy in its own right but not usually manned when pushing.   Modified 
small cigarette boat hull might be an easy place to start.   Most of these are 
pretty strong and the conversion to a std prop in place of the outdrives gives a 
lot of flexibility in getting the thrust right and the prop deep in the water. 
  Have to position to avoid the existing motor pod.
     Just store the thing under the main deck in the marina.     Most true 
cigarette boats are equipped with Bimbos too but they don't cook!
