[MHml] transoms

Clear of the water definitely generate annoying wave slap at rest;Submersed ,definitely generate annoying noise/drag at normal cruising speeds.A typical French 40 footer  I saw appeared to have unsubmersed transoms but on close inspection,in side elevation there was a4 inch deep step or knuckle,about 3inches from the stern ,presumably to boost displacement aft while retaining the appearance of an unsubmerged transom and to hell with the hydrodynamics I guess!
