[MHml] Transom design for a cat

I believe immersed transoms only work without a drag penalty on
narrow waterline beam like Chris White catamarans. Try it on a
usually wider transom of a cruising cat and the drag will be
significant.
One thing I know from experience, as my boat has transoms clear of
the water, is that they are a lot noisier at anchor as small waves
slap under it specially on windy days.
Another thing to consider is that non-immersed transom hulls squat
more under power because of a more pronounced rocker at the stern
(assuming two hulls with the same LWL, the one with immersed transoms
will have less rocker at the stern). That brings the rocker into the
equation and its implications and variables, which is beyond the
little that I know.
