re doors - now i've seen a pic of an Azuli - what is the problem? the
doors are well above the sheerline
headsail wise - we obvioulsy agree a storm jib = heavy weather sail (by
definition it has to)
on the ORMA60 regs, they race to ISAF/ORC Cat 1 regs, no longer their
own
re being a mess - on these we obviously have to agree to diasagree
on having a generator on board - to me it makes sense to have exhaust
and fuel fixed. i had a genny for many years on Molly and it was dead
easy - small fixed fuel tank - and exhaust hole and bit of silcon hi
temp tube to connect it up and a strap to tie it down. it all sat in the
space below the cockpit floor
what the rule is there is to prevent some idiot running an genny below
decks and either setting the boat on fire or gassing the crew with
carbon monoxide.
arguing 'i'll run it on deck only' is irrelevant and whilst this is
probably fine in good conditions... but what do you do when you need
the power and conditions prevent it being run on deck?
on jib hoisting - you don't need to hoist it over the rolled jib. use a
free luff headsail ie one with a spectra or wire bolt rope up the luff
and use the halayrd to tension it. Thats is how the ORMA's etc thier
stormjibs.
we have the arrangment of storm jib = heavy weather jib and free
hoisting it just inside the working jib on the Formula 28 - which is a
catamaran - and it works very well. i can send you pics if you would
like to see how we do it
on you comment over rule writer's lack of experinece and vested
interests - I can't disagree more.
French Azulis have to comply with the same regs as we do in UK (that's
why we all use ISAF/ORC) the move a number of years ago was to globalise
the saftey ruls so there was one standard and not variation between each
race and within countries . So if fench Azuli's can race so can yours
have a great new year and hope to see you on the race circuit
