[MHml] sticking dagger boards

My boards are tight, we winch them up and down with our biggest winches, and
even that doesn't work when heavily loaded. Without a winching system it'd
be hopeless. At least they don't ventilate thru the trunk.

Be careful w/ Teflon, as it cold flows under pressure. UHMW PE is almost as
slick and a lot tougher. And cheaper.

As for attachment, if you can use .125" thick pieces or thicker, you can
counter sink small flathead SS screws. This is what I did on my dagger
board rudder sleeves. Just be sure to sink the heads deep enough. And
match the board shape.

We clean our boards before going sailing, and wipe on McLube. At least on
the exposed 5' top part of the board, when fully retracted. This seems to
help.

If I ever go long enough without a major project, the tight boards may float
to the top of the list and get some attention.

Here is a question for this august group. The dagger boards on my
TRT1200 are nearly 10' in length. They were very hard to get up or down
this past sailing season. I removed them recently with the boat out on
the hard. The port board was so tight in its case that it needed to be
screwed up and out using a screw stand and 2x4 boards shoved up into the
case from below.

Beyond refinishing, smoothing down the high points where I can see the
board rubbing, I was thinking about putting some Teflon around the upper
and lower exits of the dagger board cases and also putting some strips
into routed channels on the boards themselves from the top down to just
above the part that is in the water.

My question (finally!) is how do you attache strips of Teflon to the
cases/boards when nothing seems to stick to it? Its very attractive
qualities seem to pose a problem for me at first glance.

PS I don't expect to be able to raise the boards when they are loaded
up; I can barely do that on my A cat.
