I went from 1 outboard, with only a little ability to turn it, to two outboard style drives, fixed position, with instant ahead and astern, on either prop. With the 1 outboard, I had no ability to steer at low speed when the wind was blowing. Very off putting; going through crowded anchorages, much faster than prudent, just to keep some steering. also, I often needed to use lines, to get into the marina, in windy conditions. Now I can turn in my own length and park just about anywhere. But it comes down to what you are going to do with your boat, as to what is important. For me it's comfort and ease first, for others, it's the smallest amount of power, that will get you out far enough to hoist the sails. I'm sure that the ability to turn a single outboard would improve matters.

How would you rate your maneuverability with one engine? Do you have the engine hooked into your helm?
