I might humbly submit that sometimes "the best is the enemy of the good". A 
small tiller pilot connected to a trim tab on the rudder might be preferable 
in that it is known technology and hence "simpler" .... at least in the short 
run.

I would of course prefer to see the totally mechanical alternative
