Hate to rain on the parade but the "D" was a day racer, were about 750
lbs and 2-3 man crew.
Not an offshore racer. If you mandate safety gear you have a heavy and
expensive multi period..
Look at the mini transat with the 6.5 meter limit.
400 sq ft would be a really under canvased downwind sled if big enough
to carry the gear. mho
The Ostar had no size or sail area limit originally and had from a 25
ft. folkboat to a 40 ' conv. monohull. simply 1 man first to finish.
Finally wound up with a few huge vessels and now has classes and a top
end limit.
Your mixing two different rules proposals for open racing.
