[MHml] Florida to Chesapeake Bay

Hi David,

Congratulations on the new boat - I purchased at 44' trimaran from Texas
about 7 years ago and sailed across the Gulf in April as my first
offshore Skipper experience. Now I have a 42' Atlantic, Indigo.

It is pretty easy to do overnight coastal hops when the weather is good
and pop into the ICW on the bad days or when the current and wind oppose
in the Gulf Stream. With your new boat you should have the best of both
worlds because you have options.

I am taking Indigo south from New England to the Bahamas in coastal
hops. I will be heading north the Chesapeake in early May to the Mobjack
Bay area - so maybe we will see each other. Currently my boat is in GA
but I am in Boston.

Subject: [MHml] Florida to Chesapeake Bay

After many years of dreaming about it and 2 years of active looking, I
have finally purchased my first big sail boat. It's a TRT1200GT. It's
located in SW Florida and I am going to be bringing it north to the
Chesapeake Bay in April. I've only been coastal sailing a few times (in
keel boats). I have read about the dangers of the Gulf stream and so
welcome any advice from those who have done such a trip. It seems to be
wasteful of the boat's abilities to just go up the inside passage via
the ICW, however I'm not ready for a trip north via Bermuda. Perhaps
something just off-shore?
