[MHml] Salon Nautique du Paris

G'day,

In the unlikely event that they do see the light, I would be happy to co operate. Would love to see some pictures if you can get any. Did they say what the purpose of the very small steps is?

Transpac boat is temporarily on hold while I experiment with a very simple single rudder technique. However, it looks like there may be two of them on the start line, so I have to get cracking so I can tell the other guy how it is built.

regards,

Rob

Thanks Rob I'll forward your info if they show up in Dusseldorf. Should they have any questions how this can be done they'll get this http://www.harryproa.com/ :-)
Good luck with your Transpac project!

what do you proa people think about this one http://www.asterwind.com/ ?

      Regards Reidar

      G'day,

      Thanks for the information.

As a proa person, I think it is a small step from heavy, fundamentally inefficient, catamarans to lightweight, fast, proas. ;-)

I think their next modifications will be to lock the Y frame that the rig slides on in one hull regardless of which tack they are on, then replace it with an unstayed mast, which should reduce their weight and cost significantly, and increasing their performance

They then have to make "the big leap" to a boat which shunts instead of tacks and gybes. First step is to gybe a conventional cat in a big breeze with the wife and kids onboard. Once they see the light on this, they can start optimising their hull shapes for comfort and speed, instead of for tacking ability and rig support.

      regards,

      Rob
