Peter,

I think there is a good solution but it may not yet be on the market.   The 
solution is to have a normal radar set with an "object within radius" audible 
alarm.   The radius might be set to say 5 miles.   The missing feature is to 
have the radar "go to sleep" for most of the time and only process a single 
sweep every 5   to 10 minutes.   This "Part Time Radar Watch" could be implimented 
in most new sets with no added cost to manufacture.

With solid state sets this is sismply a matter of programming a timer and the 
power savings would be on the order of 95% compared to a set continuously on 
and maintaining an alarm full time.
