Well, we talked to my insurance company first, because we couldn't contact the other guy for awhile. Turns out he's insured too, so his insurance may step up; unless they claim it was totally inconceivable that an undersized chafed dock line could break on a windy day. Still in process basically.
The surveyor my insurance company hired said that they would probably not paint the whole hulls due to the age of the vessel. His words were "it would leave you in better condition than before the accident". His thought was to have the insurance company offer a cash settlement toward the repainting cost by a pro, which I could use to paint the whole hulls myself. Not a bad option and I may take that route.
