That sounds like it should do the job, I have found the stock halyard lock to be a problem releasing, especially in high winds when you most need in down, NOW.

Self Tending Jib?? That is not stock, my is self tending also; with the traveler on the middle beam. Works pretty well.

Who made your Square-Top? How do you like it?

Subject: [MHml] Macs, PC's and a real question

I was going to do a diatribe on Macs not being as great, nor Wintel machines as bad, as some feel but it's not worth it. Might be a way to get some replies, though. I do, however, have a real question to ask hoping I can get some ideas.

I want to convert to an internal jib halyard on my Reynolds 21 and don't have any idea the kind of loads involved. Pretty typical, 31' fractional, rotating rig with a big, square top main, self-tending jib, 11' beam and about 1000 pounds. I'm using ¼" Spectra for the halyard and think I want to use a through deck block just below the hounds. If that's the way to go then is something like a Harken #106, 500 lbs. swl and 2000 lbs. breaking strength o.k.?

Looking forward to your thoughts and suggestions.

  Thanks, Tom
