I mentioned that we had 2 boatloads of friends in Phuket.
Mercifully both were spared.
There is an account with photos at

I watched the beach and thought: “It seems like a nice day to go to the
beach.’ Because the water was very low. Then Mercator [their yacht] started
turning in circles. The yachts were all pointing in another direction. There
was a very strong current! I looked at the beach again and... There was no
more beach! I looked at the other beach. There were three cars in the sand.
Dad went to try to give help. People were screaming everywhere. There was an
earth quake! And then an extra high wave. Super high! The wave hits
everything on land. And dad and Will were in a dinghy close to the beach! We
don’t see them anymore! Where are they?
Dad is back. He says that they did not see any people in the water but that
there are many beach chairs and other stuff. Everything is broken. Also
houses and cars.
We go outside the bay. It is safer there. After a couple of hours we see that
the worst is over. I go to another yacht where it’s Jessies birthday.
Actually, I forget what happened. When I’m back on Mercator daddy says that
there are many people killed in Thailand and many many more all over the
world.
It’s better to always be prepared for the worst.
