Now for somewthing really different: A catamaran appeared this week on
Junkyard Wars, a UK-produced bit of fun fluff.  Two teams compete to build
something of junk in 8 hours, and compete to rescue team memnbers one at a
time in a tour around what passes for a lake in UK (a horrrible body of
sludge). One of the competing teams built quite a creditable wooden cat
with lots of duct tape, installed a smallish motorcycle engine- and a
single smallish rudder --between the hulls.  There was no multihull sailor
there to tell them to put it on one of the pointy ends.

So guess how well it turned! I shuddered every time...as they thumped
every wall. Ach, I sighed. If Tom Speer had just been there to help with
their Ackermann angle! Fortunately their monohull competition broke a
critical power coupling and lost their Honda power.  The Cat won!   8^)

Junkyard Wars could help with parallel thinking for real world problems
....like how many winch and generator bolts can you rob to fasten
something like unused bulkhead doors... to your rapidly disintegrating 35
meter carbon fiber cat when WAY out of sight of land!
