[MHml] Oh, dear: tris less safe than cats

Thanks to Larry for posting an IP address that worked for the MCA report
titled Capsize and Stability of Sailing Multihulls,
http://193.113.211.177/min/min76.htm

Reading this innocuous-looking document, I see that some safety boffin
from the Nanny-State has now weighed in with a bunch of models and a wave
tank, to claim that, "Sailing trimarans are considered unsuitable for
commercial operation on extended voyages" and they exhibit a "reduced
level of safety"--compared to what?--and that the skipper must show
evidence "of the specialised skills required when operating such a yacht
in severe conditions" (quoted from section 6.5).

Ya'll are intelligent enough to read the rest for yourself, and to
discover the flaws in such reasoning from their study--in typical fashion,
they are tarring with a very wide brush--what concerns me is what other
regulatory agencies and insurors might make of this.
Wonder what Cuan Law and some of the other big tris that have been
chartering in the Caribbean and Med for nigh on 20 years or more think of
this?

If this ever has larger repercussions, I'd suggest we simply come up with
a new name for 3-hulled vessels to elude the buggers!

David
